CNY 2011 Part 3 - The Decorations

Next, the decorations in Porky's Cavern where the goal is to keep everything simple and easy. Red symbolizes happiness while gold symbolizes wealth, that's what we need Porky said !

Symbolism
Mr. Pomelo - In Cantonese, 'you' is similar in sound to the phrase “to have.” To use a pomelo to decorate one’s home during the new year implies a wish that the home will have everything it needs the coming year.

Mandarin Orange - Their shape and color symbolize the sun and connect with the yang principle, which represents the positive element and generative force in nature. Thus oranges are considered auspicious fruits and important symbols for the New Year.

Little Pig - Do me need to say more ?

Mr. Hu Luo / Bottle Gourd - The Gourd, signifies abundant of riches and wealth. Specifically the bottle gourd is also a common Chinese symbol for longevity as well as good luck. Gourds are painted with the Chinese symbol for longevity and then displayed in the home to ward off harmful energies - thus promoting long life.

Pineapple - known in Hokkien as "ong lai" which translastes to 'prosperity comes'.

Laughing Buddha -most supreme symbols of joy and wellbeing.
